Emma Garness
My work explores the relationship between spirit, figure, and the natural world. I’m drawn to the spaces where memory, observation, and imagination overlap, where something half-remembered or half-seen begins to take shape.
Drawing is the foundation of my practice, guiding how I think and respond. Painting large-scale murals outdoors has shaped my work, providing both material and inspiration through encounters and observations, which I revisit in the studio.
Whilst making work in this space, figures, landscapes, and forms appear and disappear, shifting as I build and break down images, often suggesting quiet, unresolved narratives.
I work in acrylic, mixed media, printmaking, and wooden reconstructions, allowing images to evolve through adding, removing, and reworking. These traces of making are visible,
recording decisions and time spent.
