Angela Bell
I love pattern, colour and texture and using different techniques in my work. This forms the beginnings of most of my art. I generally work intuitively not quite knowing at the onset where a piece of work will lead and always start by creating an interesting surface on which to work. I don’t initially have a particular subject matter but tap into a variety of imagery from my travels, collected bits and bobs and a lot of imagination.
Many of my paintings translate well into freestyle machine embroideries. This involves printing an image of an original painting onto a small piece of canvas and then machine embroidering, loosely using the image as a guide for the colours of the embroidery. Translating the paintings into embroideries gives the work another dimension. It is a much smaller condensed image which creates a rich harmonious composition of colour and thread.
